Girls Golf
Two shall enter……and two advance!!!!
Sarah Hyten and Riana Thakker came into today's IHSA 1A Sectional Tournament in Jacksonville with high hopes. Sarah had her sights set on defending her Sectional title while Riana was hoping to hit her last high school golf shots at the State Tournament in Decatur later this week. Both girls achieved their goals and will be headed to Decatur to finish their high school careers together at State.
Sarah, who won the Sectional Tournament last year in a dramatic playoff, played the front nine in 1-under but found herself trailing by three shots. Two holes later, Sarah got the lead and never gave it back. She fired a 1-under 71 to capture the Sectional Title by 3 shots.
Riana played a magical round consisting of 1 double bogey, 5 bogies, 11 pars and a birdie to card her personal best score of 78. With that, Riana finished in 8th place and punched her ticket to State. This will be her first trip to Decatur as an individual. She played there with the team in 2023.
These two girls will play Friday and Saturday at Red Tail Run in Decatur, IL in the 1A IHSA State Tournament.
GO GRIFFINS!
