Coach Brett Schubert Announced as New Boys Soccer Coach

It is with both gratitude and sadness that we announce the resignation of Coach Matthew McVicar from his leadership roles with the Father McGivney Catholic High School boys and girls soccer programs. After six incredible years of service, Coach McVicar has decided to step away from the program.  At the same time, we are excited to announce and warmly welcome Mr. Brett Schubert as the new Head Coach of the McGivney Boys Soccer program.

A Troy, IL resident, Coach Schubert is entering his fourth year with the program, having served as an assistant coach since 2021. A former team captain at both Lincoln Land Community College and the University of Illinois Springfield, Brett graduated in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He currently works as an accountant at Prairie Farms and lives with his wife Beth and their dog, Charlie.

We are thrilled to welcome Coach Schubert into his new leadership role. His passion for the sport and dedication to his players has been evident throughout his time as assistant coach. His guidance and mentorship have had a lasting impact on the young men he’s worked with, both on and off the field. The bond Coach Brett has formed with the players is phenomenal, and he is held within the highest regard.

Thank You, Coach McVicar
Over the past six years, Coach McVicar has poured his time, energy, and heart into building two thriving soccer programs that have grown in both competitiveness and character under his leadership. His dedication to our athletes has not only led to victories on the field but has also shaped young men and women who embody teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.

His coaching tenure includes:

  • Boys Soccer (Spring 2021–Fall 2024)

    • 56 Wins & 39 Losses

    • 2 Regional Championships

  • Girls Soccer (Spring 2020–Spring 2025)

    • 73 Wins & 30 Losses

    • 3 Regional Championships

These numbers speak to a legacy of excellence, but the impact Coach McVicar has made extends far beyond the stat sheet. He has created a culture of success and high standards that will serve our student-athletes and school community for years to come.

Coach McVicar is leaving the program in a fantastic place, and his efforts have made it an attractive opportunity for the next coaching team to continue the legacy he began.

The McGivney family extends our deepest thanks to Coach McVicar and our full support and enthusiasm for Coach Schubert as he begins this new chapter with Griffin Soccer.
